On the Origin of Atheism

On 1859, Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. Quite a mouthful. They noticed that too so in 1872, they changed it to The Origin of Species (yes, it took 3 years!).

The initial title of this article was actually On the Origin of Atheism by Means of Personal Selection, or the Creation of the Justification of a Belief in the non-existence of God for Life. But it will not take me 3 years to change it to the one you see above.

If you are are not familiar with the Origin of Species, good for you! As it outlines for the very first time (to the public) the evolution theory (it's crap). The evolution theory has become a refuge of atheists around the world, and sadly so. This article will attempt to explain another origin though, and I guess the title that I have chosen is self explanatory.

When I studied law at the Manuel L. Quezon University in Quiapo, during my first year, first semester (which turned out to be my last), I had a classmate who was an atheist. He was friendly enough but he shared to us 2 reasons why he became an atheist:

1. The corruption in the Catholic Church
2. The death of his girlfriend due to a car accident

Well I guess, the 2nd reason holds more weight. Because of that traumatic experience, his belief system changed. He no longer believed in a God that gave him life, the God whom he prayed to since he was a child. My classmate turned his back on the God who provided him with his needs because God did not save his girlfriend. Ladies and gentlemen, that's the origin of atheism. Because one's version of a god failed to live up to a set of expectations, atheism is born. My classmate's god was supposed to save his girlfriend, but since his god failed on that requirement, God didn't exist.

This argument is of course, laughable. This is no different from this kind of screwed-logic:

Fishes swim.
My brother swims.
My brother is a fish.

To conclude that God doesn't exist just because a personal criteria wasn't met is like saying a person is fish just because he can swim.

Of course atheists would tell you that, that is not the case, that the reason why they are atheists is because of profound reasons. They will present to you the big bang theory, the evolution theory and other myths that has fueled their resolve.

However, they can not deny this one clear thing: Nobody is born an atheist.

Senator Miriam Santiago is my 2nd evidence/witness to back-up my stand that the origin of atheism is not some, scientific, logical reasoning that a smart person has discovered but it is simply (and merely) a personal choice.

Below is a transcript of an interview between the veteran ABS-CBN reporter Korina Sanchez and the senator:

KORINA: Do you believe that people are defined by how they are transformed by either love or lost?
SEN.MIRIAM: Oh, absolutely, it has changed... of course, that's life defining, it has changed the way I see the world.
I don't understand why God can be all love and still inflict this kind of pain on people. This god is an underachiever. He does not do what he was supposed to be doing, whatever his sex is. Whether he's an it or a he or a she or whatever. But, I'm sure that if you were a god or if I were the God, I'll be doing a better job.

Yes folks, the senator is now an atheist. But like I said, nobody is born an atheist. More than a decade ago, the senator visited our Church's Convention Center. And I remember quite distinctly, when she was given a few minutes to address the congregation, she said that "God is everywhere."

So what happened? What made Sen.Miriam turn her back on God Almighty?

I'll tell you why:

Miriam son a suicide
(Philippine Star)
The death Thursday night of Alexander Santiago, youngest son of former senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and former interior undersecretary Narciso Santiago Jr., has been ruled as a suicide, the Central Police District (CPD) said yesterday.
CPD director Chief Superintendent Napoleon Castro said the entire Santiago family was devastated by the death of the 26-year-old Alexander.
Alexander, fondly called Art, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head, police said.
Castro said the former senator has been hysterical since Thursday night and that the family had to call doctors to have her sedated. "Art was the couple's favorite son," Castro added.

"The family cannot understand why (he killed himself)," Castro said. "They are still upset and they don't understand why this had to happen."
That's why Miriam eventually became an atheist. Miriam initially believed in God. But since she created herself her own definition of a god, and since that definition includes that that her god will not "inflict this kind of pain on people", since this personal god failed her, she was converted to atheism.

Nobody is born an atheist.

Professor Paul Bloom, a psychologist at Yale University in the US, said:

'There's now a lot of evidence that some of the foundations for our religious beliefs are hard-wired.
'All humans possess the brain circuitry...'
We all start as Theists. That's how God made us. It's in our brain. However, because of people's indulgences on their personal and un-biblical definitions on what God is supposed to be, when the time comes that they are not able reconcile their God-criteria with their situations in life, with the help of the devil, they deceive themselves and they cause God to disappear.

The same is true with Charles Darwin:

I can indeed hardly see how anyone ought to wish Christianity to be true; for if so the plain language of the text seems to show that the men who do not believe, and this would include my Father, Brother and almost all my best friends, will be everlastingly punished. And this is a damnable doctrine.
In Darwin's version of God (from his misinterpretation of scriptures), he thought that God will automatically punish without good reason his father, brother and almost all his best friends (really? almost? haha). But in truth, Darwin's god doesn't really exists. For the living God of the Bible is more realistic and just. He will save Darwin's family and friends if they really deserve it.

The end.

Thanks be unto God and to God be the glory!
